Welcome to the Elementary Physical Education and Health Activities Wiki

Here are some activities from our AAHPERD Conference Session "Teaching Health and Physical Education in the same classroom".  This session was based on the Pre-school to 4th grade Wellness Standards in West Virginia.

Extended Description/Program Objectives: Some states, like West Virginia, have created Elementary Wellness Standards that combine health and physical education into one set of standards. Both physical education teachers and elementary educators are responsible for covering the wellness standards. With only 30-40 minutes per week of physical education per group in some cases, taking large chunks of that activity time to sit an learn about safety, nutrition, and health concepts may not be the best option. Because these concepts are important for children to learn, teaching the wellness concepts through physical activities is one way to maintain activity time for students. This session will present activities and lessons that can be used in elementary school physical education. The lessons were developed by teacher candidates, elementary physical education teachers, and supervising college faculty and have been implemented in local schools.
